About Us

RESAIL is a marketplace for high-quality used sails, giving proven sails a second life.
We make sustainable sailing easy, without compromising on performance or trust.

Born on the water

RESAIL was founded from a lifetime spent sailing. I am a former Olympic sailor (Los Angeles ’84) with multiple national and European titles. Sailing has never been just competition to me, it shaped how I think, work, and build.

Alongside competitive racing, I ran a sailing school during my law studies for many years, which gave me countless opportunities to see the world.

During my business life, I founded several companies within the marine industry. These experiences gave me a deep understanding of sails, sailors, and the choices we make on the water.

Over time, one question became unavoidable:

What happens to sails when they are replaced?

Too often, the answer was simple, they disappear.

RESAIL exists to change that.

Through RESAIL, I created a B2C marketplace for high-quality used sails, giving proven sails a second life with cruisers and club racers. By extending the lifecycle of sails, we reduce waste, lower the environmental impact of sailing, and offer a smart alternative to buying new without compromising performance or trust.
Racing a sailboat has always been a passion, so RESAIL is a logical and sustainable result of giving back to this wonderful sport and pastime.

Together with my wife, we run RESAIL from the Netherlands, working closely with sailmakers and sailors across Europe and beyond.

There is always a second life for sails.

Jan Willem Verkade

Co-Founder

I started sailing with my parents at the age of 2 months. At the age of 5 I started my first regatta in an Optimist and thereafter Laser Radial and Laser. After that I made the big step to offshore racing with big boats, mostly Swan’s.

Nowadays I am giving sailing lessons to my kids and occasionally when there is time, I sail regatta’s in a J-24 and Dragon.

Sjaak and I sailed a lot of offshore races together and so one day he came to me with his idea how to promote the re-use of sails, research circular solutions and sell nice products in the process.
