From Vision to Mission to Impact

Vision

Since the introduction of modern plastics in the 1940s, the sailmaking industry has evolved rapidly enabling stronger, lighter and higher-performing sails. At the same time, traditional local craftsmanship has largely been replaced by globalized production and large-scale manufacturing.

Today, most sails are produced in industrial facilities with significant environmental impact, while circularity and recycling remain largely absent from the industry’s business model.

At Resail, we believe this must change.

The future of sailmaking is circular.
A future where sails are designed for longer use, repaired instead of discarded, repurposed into new applications, and ultimately recycled back into valuable raw materials.

Sailors are deeply connected to nature. As sustainability becomes increasingly important across the marine industry, the demand for responsible innovation and environmentally conscious solutions will continue to grow.

Resail exists to accelerate that transition.

Our mission

At Resail, our mission is to extend the lifecycle of sails through reuse, repair, upcycling and recycling.

By connecting sailors, sailmakers, recyclers and industry partners, we create practical circular solutions that reduce waste and give sailcloth a second life.

We believe that:

"There is always a second life for sails.”

How We Make This Happen

Resail builds the infrastructure for a more circular sailmaking industry by:

  • Providing a marketplace for used, demo and stock sails
  • Partnering with sailmakers and industry professionals
  • Collecting end-of-life sails for upcycling initiatives
  • Supporting recycling innovation and material recovery
  • Creating awareness and sharing industry knowledge

Our goal

Giving new life to 1,000,000 m² of sailcloth annually within the next 10 years.

A measurable step toward a cleaner, more responsible future for the sailing industry.
