Question 1

What is a Self-Tacking Furling Jib?

Accepted Answer

A self-tacking furling jib is designed for ease of handling, especially for single-handed sailors or smaller crews. It allows the sail to automatically move from one side of the boat to the other during a tack, without needing to manually adjust sheets. This is achieved via a traveler track system in front of the mast, where the jib sheet is guided. This type of jib works efficiently with furling systems, enabling convenient deployment and storage of the sail.

Question 2

What is 3Di Ocean 330 material?

Accepted Answer

3Di Ocean 330 is a proprietary sail material developed by North Sails, specifically engineered for cruising. It combines the advanced 3Di composite technology with polyester fibers, offering a seamless, strong, and durable sail. These sails are 3D molded from spread filament tapes, which eliminates the use of Mylar film, reducing the risk of delamination and enhancing shape retention. The material is designed for excellent durability and performance, especially for cruising boats generally between 25 and 45 feet. This jib also features natural UV protection.

Question 3

What are the dimensions and sail area of this jib?

Accepted Answer

This jib has the following dimensions:

Sail Area: 11.4 square meters
Luff: 8.96 meters
Foot: 2.82 meters
Leech: 8.2 meters

Question 4

What is the condition of this sail?

Accepted Answer

This specific jib is new. While Resail specializes in giving used sails a second life, this item is offered in new condition.

Question 5

What kind of boat is this jib suitable for?

Accepted Answer

This 11.4m² self-tacking furling jib was originally intended for a 28-foot boat. Self-tacking jibs are generally popular on boats ranging from 22 to 28 feet. To ensure compatibility, it is important to compare the sail’s dimensions (luff, foot, leech) with your boat’s rig measurements and existing furling system.

Question 6

Are battens included with this jib?

Accepted Answer

No, the 3 vertical battens for this jib are not included.

Question 7

What does the 5mm luff tape mean?

Accepted Answer

The 5mm luff tape is the rope-like edge of the sail that slides into the groove of your boat’s furling foil on the forestay. It is a common size, with many popular furling systems, such as certain Harken MKIV Ocean units, designed to accommodate a 5mm (#6) luff tape. Ensuring the luff tape size matches your furler’s groove is crucial for smooth hoisting, furling, and optimal sail performance.
