Leech: 8.5 meters
Sail Area: 13 square meters

Question 2

What material is this mainsail made from, and what are its characteristics?

Accepted Answer

This mainsail is made from Dacron, a woven polyester fabric. Dacron is recognized for its strength, resistance to UV degradation, and abrasion resistance, making it a durable choice for sails. It is a common material for cruising and club racing sails, offering a good balance of performance and ease of handling.

Question 3

What features does this mainsail include?

Accepted Answer

This mainsail includes several practical features:

2 Reefs: These allow you to reduce the sail area in stronger winds, helping to maintain boat stability and control.
Partial Battens: Partial battens extend part-way from the leech towards the luff. They help the sail maintain its designed shape, reduce flogging, and can make the sail easier to raise, lower, and stow.
Sliders in the Luff: Luff sliders minimize friction when hoisting and lowering the mainsail, contributing to easier operation. They also help keep the sail attached to the mast when dropped, improving control.

Question 4

What is the condition of this mainsail?

Accepted Answer

This is a used mainsail. Resail is a marketplace dedicated to giving proven sails a second life, offering a sustainable option for sailors.

Question 5

For which boat type was this mainsail originally designed?

Accepted Answer

This mainsail was originally designed for a Midget 26. While tailored for this specific boat, it may be suitable for other vessels with comparable mast and boom dimensions.

Question 6

How should I care for this used Dacron mainsail to ensure its longevity?

Accepted Answer

To maximize the lifespan of your Dacron mainsail, it’s recommended to:

Rinse Regularly: Hose down the sail with fresh water after use, especially in saltwater, to remove salt and dirt.
Dry Thoroughly: Ensure the sail is completely dry before folding and storing to prevent mildew growth.
Proper Storage: Store the sail in a dry, well-ventilated area, protected from direct sunlight.
Avoid Flogging: Minimize unnecessary flogging of the sail, as this can accelerate wear and tear.
Professional Inspection: Consider periodic professional inspection and cleaning to address any wear or damage.
