Question 6

How should I maintain a Dacron mainsail?

Accepted Answer

To maintain a Dacron mainsail, regularly rinse it with fresh water to remove salt and dirt, and ensure it is completely dry before storage to prevent mildew. For general cleaning, use mild soap and water with a soft brush. For stubborn stains or mildew, a diluted solution of household bleach (3-5%) can be used on Dacron, but always rinse thoroughly afterwards. Avoid commercial washing machines as they can damage the sail. Proper storage in a sail bag or indoors, away from prolonged UV exposure and extreme heat, will extend the sail’s life.

Question 7

Can this mainsail be used on boats other than a Nordic Folkboat?

Accepted Answer

While originally for a Nordic Folkboat, the suitability for other boats depends on matching the sail’s dimensions (luff, foot, leech, and sail area) to your boat’s specific requirements and rig. It is recommended to compare these measurements carefully with your boat’s specifications.
