Question 1

What are the key specifications of this 21m2 Dacron Mainsail?

Accepted Answer

This is a new 21m2 Dacron mainsail from Tasker, designed for coastal cruising. It features a horizontal cut, two reefing points, one full batten, and three partial battens. The sail is loose-footed, with a luff of 9.95m, a foot of 3.65m, and a leech of 10.45m. The Dacron fabric has a weight of 320gr/m2.

Question 2

What does "Dacron (320gr/m2)" signify for the sail's performance and durability?

Accepted Answer

Dacron is a highly durable woven polyester fabric known for its strength, UV resistance, and shape retention. A fabric weight of 320gr/m2 indicates a robust and heavy-duty construction, making this mainsail particularly suitable for coastal cruising due to its longevity and ability to withstand varied conditions with minimal stretch.

Question 3

What kind of sailing is this mainsail best suited for?

Accepted Answer

This mainsail is specified as “Coastal Cruising Quality.” This means it is built for durability, reliability, and ease of handling for recreational sailing along coastlines. Its robust construction and features like two reefs make it well-suited for a range of weather conditions encountered during coastal voyages.

Question 4

How can I determine if this mainsail will fit my boat?

Accepted Answer

To ensure a proper fit, compare your boat’s mast and boom measurements with the sail’s dimensions: a luff of 9.95m, a foot of 3.65m, and a leech of 10.45m. It is crucial that these measurements align closely with your boat’s rigging to ensure optimal performance and safe operation.

Question 5

What are the advantages of a horizontal cut and a loose foot design?

Accepted Answer

A horizontal cut is a traditional and proven construction method that offers durability and effective load distribution, making it ideal for cruising sails. A loose foot allows the sail to be trimmed independently from the boom, offering greater control over the sail’s shape, especially downwind or when reefed, which can enhance performance and efficiency.

Question 6

What maintenance is required for this Dacron mainsail?

Accepted Answer

To maximize the lifespan of your Dacron mainsail, rinse it regularly with fresh water to remove salt and dirt, and always ensure it is thoroughly dry before flaking and storing. Protect the sail from prolonged UV exposure when not in use by using a sail cover. Periodic professional inspection and cleaning are also recommended.

Question 7

Is there a warranty for this new mainsail?

Accepted Answer

As a new product from Tasker, this mainsail comes with the standard manufacturer’s warranty. Specific warranty details, including duration and coverage, will be provided with your purchase.
