Question 3

Which type of vessel is this spinnaker suitable for?

Accepted Answer

This spinnaker was originally intended for a Beneteau 64. For reference, a 300 m² asymmetric spinnaker is also an optional size for yachts such as the Jeanneau 64, which is a large blue water cruiser with a length overall of approximately 20.1 meters (65 feet 11 inches). It is suitable for vessels of similar size and rigging configuration.

Question 4

Who manufactured this spinnaker?

Accepted Answer

This spinnaker was manufactured by North Sails. North Sails is recognized as a leading sailmaker globally, known for its custom-built sails, advanced technology, and a history of success in various sailing competitions, including the Olympics and America’s Cup.

Question 5

How does an asymmetric spinnaker function and what are its advantages?

Accepted Answer

An asymmetric spinnaker is designed to be tacked to the bow or a retractable bowsprit, and it is flown without a spinnaker pole. It is particularly effective for reaching and broad reaching angles. Its design generally makes it easier to handle and gybe compared to a symmetric spinnaker, making it a practical choice for cruisers and club racers.

Question 6

What is the recommended care and storage for this spinnaker?

Accepted Answer

To maintain the sail’s condition, it is recommended to:

Ensure the spinnaker is thoroughly dry and free from dirt or salt before storage.
Rinse the sail with fresh water and allow it to dry completely to prevent mildew and color bleeding.
Avoid unnecessary creasing; rolling or loosely flaking the sail is generally preferred over sharp folding to prolong its life.
Store the spinnaker in a dry, dark, and well-ventilated location, ideally in its sailbag, away from direct sunlight.
