Question 1

What type of sail is this?

Accepted Answer

This is an in-mast laminate furling mainsail. An in-mast furling system stores the mainsail inside the mast by rolling it vertically into the mast cavity. This design offers ease of use, enhanced safety by reducing the need to go on deck for sail handling, and a tidy appearance as the sail is completely stowed away.

Question 2

What are the dimensions of this mainsail?

Accepted Answer

Sail Area: 36 square meters
Luff: 14.7 meters
Foot: 4.9 meters
Leech: 15.25 meters

Question 3

What is the condition of this sail?

Accepted Answer

This sail is used. Resail specializes in providing high-quality, proven used sails, giving them a second life for cruisers and club racers. Our focus is on sustainability and offering a smart alternative without compromising performance or trust.

Question 4

What does "laminate furling mainsail" mean?

Accepted Answer

A laminate furling mainsail is constructed using multiple layers, typically with fibers strung and laminated between Mylar films, often with additional taffeta layers for durability. This construction provides superior shape retention, resistance to stretch, and is lighter than traditional woven Dacron sails, leading to improved performance. For furling systems, laminate sails are advantageous because their reduced stretch helps the sail maintain its shape and roll more easily and consistently without bunching up inside the mast.

Question 5

What type of luff tape is used?

Accepted Answer

This mainsail features a 6mm luff tape. The luff tape is the part of the sail that slides into the groove of your furling foil. Compatibility with your furler depends on the specific model and its groove size. Ensuring the correct luff tape size is crucial for smooth hoisting, furling, and unfurling, as an ill-fitting tape can cause the sail to jam or be damaged.

Question 6

Are battens included with the sail?

Accepted Answer

No, vertical battens are not included with this sail. In-mast furling mainsails are often designed with vertical battens, or without battens, to allow them to roll smoothly into the mast. Vertical battens can help support the sail’s leech and allow for a larger sail area.

Question 7

Who is the manufacturer of this sail?

Accepted Answer

This sail was produced by Elvstrom Sails. Elvstrom Sails is a renowned Danish sailmaker with over 65 years of experience, known for manufacturing quality sails for both cruising and racing, with significant expertise in furling sail optimization.
