This is an Elvstrom EMS Furling Mainsail, specifically designed for in-mast furling systems. It features full continuous vertical battens, which are integral to its performance and handling.

Question 2

What are the dimensions of this mainsail?

Accepted Answer

The key dimensions for this mainsail are:

Sail Area: 37 m²
Luff: 14.05 m
Foot: 4.9 m
Leech: 14.58 m

These measurements are crucial for ensuring proper fit with your vessel’s mast and rig.

Question 3

What are the advantages of an Elvstrom EMS Furling Mainsail with vertical battens?

Accepted Answer

Elvstrom EMS Furling Mainsails with vertical battens offer several benefits for cruisers and club racers:

Improved Sail Shape: The full vertical battens provide optimal support for the leech, allowing for a more effective sail shape and increased sail area (roach) compared to furling sails without battens.
Enhanced Reefing: The battens also function as reefing points, helping to stretch the luff when reefed, resulting in a flatter and more efficient sail.
Smooth Furling: The battens aid in smooth furling by stabilizing the sail and preventing folds as it retracts into the mast.
Easy Handling: This design combines easy handling from the cockpit with reliable performance, making sailing more convenient and safer, especially for short-handed crews.

Question 4

What is the condition of this sail?

Accepted Answer

This mainsail is in New condition. While Resail specializes in giving proven sails a second life, this particular item is unused.

Question 5

Is this sail suitable for boats other than a Dufour 455?

Accepted Answer

This sail was originally specified for a Dufour 455. The dimensions (Luff: 14.05m, Foot: 4.9m) are critical. For compatibility with other vessels, it is essential to compare these measurements against your boat’s specific rig dimensions (P and E measurements for the mainsail, and mast slot dimensions for in-mast furling systems). While the dimensions are similar to some published Dufour 455 mainsail specifications, slight variations can occur, so always verify against your boat’s actual measurements for a precise fit.

Question 6

Who manufactured this mainsail?

Accepted Answer

This mainsail was manufactured by Elvstrom Sails, a renowned sailmaker with a long history of developing high-quality sails, including pioneering advancements in furling mainsail technology.
