Question 1

What is Elvstrom EPEX technology?

Accepted Answer

Elvstrom EPEX is a patented membrane sail technology known for its high performance and shape stability. Each EPEX sail is 100% custom-designed, with every fiber precisely placed according to a load path design. This advanced process, which includes bonding components under extreme and constant vacuum, ensures optimal fiber distribution and an exceptionally stable sail shape.

Question 2

What does 'As New' condition mean for this mainsail?

Accepted Answer

An ‘As New’ condition indicates that the mainsail has seen minimal use and retains excellent structural integrity and shape. Typically, this suggests the sail has over 90% of its performance life remaining. A sail in this condition will generally have a crisp feel and rigidity, characteristic of a sail that has not yet significantly softened or stretched from extensive use.

Question 3

What are the exact dimensions of this mainsail?

Accepted Answer

Sail Area: 43 m²
Luff: 13.88 m
Foot: 5.04 m
Leech: 14.69 m

Question 4

Which boats is this mainsail suitable for?

Accepted Answer

This 43m² Race Mainsail was originally designed for a Dufour 36 Performance. To ensure proper fit and optimal performance, it is crucial to compare its specific dimensions (Luff: 13.88m, Foot: 5.04m, Leech: 14.69m) with your boat’s mast and boom measurements. Resail is committed to giving proven sails a second life, and a correct fit is essential for safety and sailing enjoyment.

Question 5

How should I maintain this Elvstrom EPEX mainsail?

Accepted Answer

Storage: For winter storage, roll the sail from top to foot to prevent permanent creases.
Cleaning: Rinse the sail with fresh water after use and ensure it is completely dry before furling or packing to prevent mildew. Never leave wet sails packed for more than a few days.
Chemicals: Avoid using any chemical solvents or detergents, as they can damage the material integrity and void the warranty.
Protection: Use patches in areas where the sail may rub against boat parts like spreaders or railings. Always use a sail cover when mooring to protect against UV exposure.
Inspection: Regularly inspect all stitching, batten pockets, luff cars, fittings, luff tape, and bolt ropes for any signs of wear or damage.

Question 6

What are the performance characteristics of an EPEX Race Mainsail?

Accepted Answer

Elvstrom EPEX Race Mainsails are engineered for outstanding shape stability and consistent performance, making them a top-tier choice for competitive sailing. The patented EPEX membrane technology ensures that every fiber is precisely aligned to load paths, resulting in a sail that maintains its aerodynamic profile under varying conditions. This design focus translates to efficient power delivery and reliable handling for racers.

Question 7

What is the typical lifespan of an Elvstrom EPEX mainsail?

Accepted Answer

Laminate sails like the EPEX series are known for maintaining their designed shape and performance for a longer period compared to woven sails. However, their performance can diminish more suddenly when they reach the end of their usable life. Some reports suggest a lifespan of 8-10 years for EPEX laminate sails before delamination or significant performance loss. Proper maintenance and care, as outlined in our maintenance guide, can help extend the functional life of your sail.
