Question 3

Question 5

What is a gennaker and how is it typically used?

Accepted Answer

A gennaker is an asymmetrical sail that combines characteristics of both a genoa and a spinnaker. It is primarily used for sailing downwind and on reaching courses, offering efficient performance in a broader range of apparent wind angles than a traditional spinnaker. Unlike a symmetrical spinnaker, a gennaker is typically flown without a spinnaker pole, with its tack attached to the bow or a bowsprit, making it generally easier to handle for many sailors.

Question 6

Why choose a used gennaker from Resail?

Accepted Answer

Choosing a used gennaker from Resail supports sustainable sailing by extending the lifecycle of high-quality sails. This approach reduces waste and environmental impact, offering a performance-proven alternative to new sails. Resail’s foundation in a lifetime of sailing experience, including competitive racing and maritime business, ensures a focus on reliable and effective equipment, giving proven sails a second life for cruisers and club racers.

Question 7

How can I confirm this gennaker will fit my boat?

Accepted Answer

To ensure compatibility, compare the gennaker’s luff (11.36m), foot (6.2m), and leech (9.93m) dimensions with your boat’s specific measurements. Key measurements to consider include your mast height, the distance from your mast to your bowsprit or forestay attachment point, and any relevant J-measurement for your boat type. Consulting with a sailmaker or an experienced rigger can provide precise guidance.
