Question 1

What is an Elvstrom Code Permanent Hoist sail?

Accepted Answer

The Elvstrom Code Permanent Hoist is a specialized sail designed for cruising sailors, combining maximum performance with high operating comfort. It integrates characteristics of a high-cut genoa (Yankee-style) with a Code Zero sail. A key feature is its design to remain hoisted and ready for use for extended periods, even overnight or for weeks, without needing a separate cover. It is UV-protected and constructed from a stiffer material that allows it to furl compactly without fluttering.

Question 2

What are the key specifications of this 80m2 Code Permanent Hoist?

Accepted Answer

Sail Area: 80 m²
Luff: 19.26 m
Foot: 9.22 m
Leech: 16.66 m
Producer: Elvstrom Sails

Question 3

For what type of sailing and boats is this Code Permanent Hoist suitable?

Accepted Answer

This Elvstrom Code Permanent Hoist, originally for a Catana Ocean Class, is well-suited for performance cruising catamarans and other vessels seeking enhanced light to medium wind performance. Catana Ocean Class catamarans are known for speed, strength, and comfort, ideal for blue-water cruising. The sail excels in light to moderate wind conditions, providing power when a genoa becomes ineffective and an asymmetric spinnaker cannot yet fill properly. It is particularly beneficial for cruising sailors looking for effortless power and reducing engine hours.

Question 4

How does the Code Permanent Hoist enhance sailing performance?

Accepted Answer

The Code Permanent Hoist fills the performance gap between upwind headsails and downwind spinnakers, acting like a flat, narrow spinnaker. It allows boats to sail effectively in light winds (e.g., 5-6 knots) and achieve higher angles and speeds. Its operating range covers approximately 50 to 120 degrees of true wind angle, making it versatile for various reaching conditions.

Question 5

What is the condition of this sail?

Accepted Answer

This 80m2 Code Permanent Hoist is in new condition.

Question 6

Who manufactured this sail?

Accepted Answer

This sail was manufactured by Elvstrom Sails, a recognized producer in the sailing industry.

Question 7

How is the Code Permanent Hoist deployed and managed?

Accepted Answer

The Code Permanent Hoist is equipped with an anti-torsion (AT) cable in the luff and uses a bottom-up furling system. It is designed to be hoisted while furled and then unfurled when ready to sail. When furled, the stiffer material ensures it remains compact and tight. For gybing, the sail is furled, the boat is gybed, and then the sail is unfurled on the new side.
