Question 1

What are the key dimensions of this Genoa?

Accepted Answer

This Genoa has a sail area of 41 square meters. Its luff (leading edge) measures 14.65 meters, the foot (bottom edge) is 5.6 meters, and the leech (trailing edge) is 13.65 meters. These dimensions are critical for determining compatibility with your sailboat’s rig.

Question 2

What does "UV COVER BLUE on Left Side" mean for this sail?

Accepted Answer

The “UV COVER BLUE on Left Side” indicates that the sail is equipped with a blue sacrificial UV protection strip sewn onto the leech and foot. This strip shields the sailcloth from harmful ultraviolet radiation when the sail is furled, significantly extending its lifespan. The “Left Side” specifies the orientation of the UV cover, meaning it should be on the port side when the sail is furled, viewed from the stern looking forward.

Question 3

What does "HF: 4,5Ø" refer to?

Accepted Answer

The notation “HF: 4,5Ø” most likely refers to the diameter of the luff rope (also known as bolt rope or luff tape) for the headfoil, which is 4.5 millimeters. This dimension is crucial for ensuring the sail’s compatibility with your boat’s furling system, as the luff rope must fit correctly into the headfoil groove.

Question 4

What is the condition of this Genoa?

Accepted Answer

This Genoa is in “Used” condition. It is described as “ready to use,” meaning it has been inspected to ensure it is functional and suitable for immediate deployment. Resail specializes in providing high-quality used sails that are proven and ready for their next life on the water.

Question 5

What type of sailing is this Genoa suitable for?

Accepted Answer

A Genoa of 41 m2 is generally suitable for a range of sailing activities, from comfortable cruising to club racing. While racing sails are often designed for peak performance over shorter durations, this Genoa, with its UV cover, is well-suited for extending its utility for both cruisers and club racers.

Question 6

How should I care for a used Genoa with a UV cover?

Accepted Answer

Proper care is essential to maximize the lifespan of this used Genoa. Always ensure the sail is completely dry before furling or storing to prevent mildew. When furled, ensure the UV cover is on the outside to provide effective protection against sun damage. Regularly rinse the sail with fresh water after use, especially in saltwater, and periodically inspect the UV cover and stitching for any signs of wear. Minimizing flogging also helps preserve the sailcloth.

Question 7

How can I determine if this Genoa will fit my boat?

Accepted Answer

To confirm compatibility, carefully compare the sail’s dimensions (luff: 14.65m, foot: 5.6m, leech: 13.65m) and the luff rope diameter (HF: 4.5mm) with your boat’s rigging specifications. Key measurements to check include your forestay length (for the luff), deck clearance (for the foot), and the specific requirements of your furling system to ensure a proper fit and optimal performance.
