Question 2

What is the condition of this Genoa sail?

Accepted Answer

This Genoa sail is listed as ‘Used’. Resail specializes in giving high-quality, proven used sails a second life, allowing cruisers and club racers to access reliable equipment while promoting sustainability in sailing.

Question 3

What does 'Dacron Cross Cut' mean for this sail's construction and performance?

Accepted Answer

Dacron Cross Cut refers to a traditional sail construction technique where panels of Dacron (a woven polyester fabric) are aligned parallel to each other and perpendicular to the sail’s leech. This method prioritizes durability, ease of production, and consistent performance, making it a popular choice for cruising and recreational sails. Dacron itself is known for its balance of affordability, durability, and ease of use. While effective in various wind conditions, over time, heavy wind and continuous use can cause some stretch in the horizontal panels, particularly in older sails.

Question 4

Who is Murphy & Nye, the manufacturer of this sail?

Accepted Answer

Murphy & Nye is a renowned nautical brand with a rich history, founded in 1933 in Chicago by Jim Murphy and Harry Nye Jr. as a sailmaking company. They gained prominence in the United States and later expanded to Europe, becoming known for their expertise in sails and, subsequently, technical sailing apparel. The brand has been associated with major sailing events, including the America’s Cup, and is recognized for its authenticity and passion for challenges in the sailing world.

Question 5

What maintenance service is available for this sail before shipping?

Accepted Answer

An optional washing service is available for this sail by a sailmaker before shipping, at an additional cost of €200. This service can help refresh the sail for its next life on the water.

Question 6

How can I determine if this 69 m2 Genoa is suitable for my sailboat?

Accepted Answer

To determine suitability, you should compare your boat’s headsail measurements (such as ‘I’ for forestay height, ‘J’ for foretriangle base, and luff/leech/foot lengths from your sail plan) with the dimensions of this 69 m2 Genoa. Consulting your boat’s specifications or a sailmaker can help ensure a proper fit and optimal performance.
