Question 1

What is a Code-O sail and what is its primary use?

Accepted Answer

A Code-O (also known as Code Zero) is a specialized sail designed to bridge the performance gap between a genoa and an asymmetric spinnaker. It is optimized for light to medium wind conditions, particularly effective for reaching at wider wind angles than a genoa but tighter than a full spinnaker. This sail provides significant power in conditions where a traditional headsail might be insufficient, making it suitable for both cruisers seeking effortless light-air performance and club racers aiming for a competitive edge.
This specific Code-O is described with “DH 65%”, which refers to its spinnaker half-width (SHW) percentage, often relevant for handicap rules like Danish DH, indicating a design that balances sail area for performance and rating optimization.

Question 2

What does "cable free" mean for this Code-O sail?

Accepted Answer

“Cable free” in the context of this Code-O sail means that its luff (the leading edge) does not rely on a traditional anti-torsion cable for tension and shape. Instead, the sail’s structure itself, typically incorporating a high-density fiber luff or integrated reinforcements within its EPEX membrane, is engineered to bear the longitudinal loads.
This design offers several benefits, including easier handling, more efficient furling and unfurling, and a more aerodynamic profile with a positive luff curve. A cable-free luff can allow for wider sailing angles and increased power, especially in lighter winds, and can also contribute to a lighter sail with a smaller packed size.

Question 3

What is EPEX Luff technology?

Accepted Answer

EPEX is a patented membrane sail technology developed by Elvstrom Sails. The “EPEX Luff” refers to the construction of the sail’s luff using this advanced membrane. This technology allows for the precise placement of individual yarns and fibers according to a computer-calculated load path design, creating a custom, highly stable membrane.
The manufacturing process involves a constant vacuum and controlled temperature to eliminate air bubbles and prevent material shrinkage, resulting in a strong, solid, and homogenous membrane. This contributes to a durable, lightweight luff that maintains its designed shape exceptionally well, enhancing the sail’s overall performance, shape stability, and longevity.

Question 4

What is the condition of this 108m2 Code-O sail?

Accepted Answer

This 108m2 Code-O sail is listed in “As New” condition. Resail specializes in providing high-quality used sails, ensuring that proven sails are given a second life on the water.

Question 5

What are the exact dimensions of this sail?

Accepted Answer

The dimensions of this 108m2 Code-O sail are:

Sail Area: 108 square meters
Luff: 19.38 meters
Foot: 9.54 meters
Leech: 17.48 meters

Question 6

How can I ensure this Code-O sail is compatible with my yacht?

Accepted Answer

To ensure this Code-O sail is compatible with your yacht, carefully compare its dimensions (luff, foot, leech, and sail area) against your boat’s specifications, particularly your mast height and available deck space for furling. Also, consider your existing rigging and furling system. For precise compatibility, it is recommended to consult with a professional sailmaker or rigging specialist who can assess your specific yacht’s requirements.

Question 7

Who manufactured this Code-O sail?

Accepted Answer

This 108m2 Code-O sail was manufactured by Elvstrom Sails. Elvstrom Sails is an internationally recognized sailmaker, founded by Paul Elvstrøm in 1954, known for producing high-performance sails using advanced technologies like EPEX.
