Question 6

How should I maintain a Dacron furling jib?

Accepted Answer

Proper maintenance will help extend the life of your Dacron furling jib:

Cleaning: Regularly rinse the sail with fresh water, especially after use in saltwater, and clean with mild soap if needed. Ensure it is thoroughly dry before furling or storing to prevent mildew.
UV Protection: Always furl the sail when not in use to protect it from prolonged UV exposure, which is Dacron’s primary enemy. Ensure the natural UV strip is intact.
Inspection: Periodically inspect the sail for any signs of wear, such as broken stitching, chafe marks, or damage to the luff tape.
Storage: If removing the sail for off-season storage, clean and dry it completely, then fold or roll it loosely in a breathable bag and store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Question 7

What type of luff tape does this jib have, and what does that mean for my furling system?

Accepted Answer

This furling jib features a 5mm luff tape. This is a common and widely used size for many furling systems. To confirm compatibility, it is always recommended to check the specifications or manual of your specific furling system, as luff tape sizes can vary between 4mm and 7mm.
