Question 3

Accepted Answer

This sail is constructed from 5Oz Norlam. Norlam is a laminate sailcloth, often consisting of Dacron taffeta over a Mylar film, known for its good shape retention and lower stretch compared to traditional woven Dacron. It offers a balance of lightweight, strength, and durability, making it suitable for cruising and club racing applications.

Question 4

What does "UV" in the product title signify?

Accepted Answer

The “UV” refers to the natural UV protection strip integrated into the sail. This sacrificial layer is designed to absorb sun exposure, protecting the rolled-up sail from sun damage when it is left on the furler. This helps to extend the sail’s lifespan by preventing degradation of the sailcloth and stitching due to prolonged sunlight exposure.

Question 5

What type of boat is this furling jib suitable for?

Accepted Answer

This furling jib was originally designed for a 33-foot sailboat. Its dimensions and construction make it suitable for a range of cruising and club racing yachts of similar size that utilize a furling system.

Question 6

Does this sail include battens?

Accepted Answer

The sail features three vertical batten pockets. Battens are typically inserted into these pockets to help maintain the sail’s shape and improve performance, and are usually acquired separately.
