What type of sailing is a 2.5m2 jib typically suitable for?

Accepted Answer

A 2.5m2 jib is generally suitable for smaller sailing vessels, such as dinghies, small keelboats, or as a storm jib for larger boats. Dacron jibs are a practical choice for coastal and offshore cruising, as well as club racing, offering long-lasting, low-maintenance performance.

Question 7

How should a Dacron jib be maintained for longevity?

Accepted Answer

To ensure the longevity of your Dacron jib, it’s recommended to:

Rinse it thoroughly with fresh water after use, especially after exposure to saltwater, and allow it to dry completely to prevent mildew.
Store it properly by rolling rather than folding to avoid sharp creases that can damage fibers, and keep it in a sail bag or cover away from direct UV sunlight.
Clean dirty spots with mild soap and water, using a soft brush. Avoid harsh chemicals like strong bleach, which can damage stitching.
Inspect regularly for small tears or damage and address them promptly.
