Question 1

What are the key features of this Elvstrom Sails EMS Trioptimal EKKO eXRP CR18 Furling Mainsail?

Accepted Answer

This is a new Elvstrom Sails EMS Trioptimal EKKO eXRP CR18 Furling Mainsail. It incorporates Elvstrom’s EMS design, meaning it’s an in-mast furling mainsail often featuring full continuous vertical battens that support the leech and act as reefing points, ensuring a flat and efficient sail whether fully deployed or reefed. The Trioptimal layout is a radial cut where panels are oriented towards the corners of the sail, optimizing force distribution and helping to maintain sail shape. The “EKKO eXRP CR18” designation indicates it is part of Elvstrom’s sustainable line, utilizing high-end laminate materials primarily made from recycled PET/polyester, including the film, taffeta, and fibers.

Question 3

What are the benefits of choosing a furling mainsail?

Accepted Answer

Furling mainsails offer significant advantages for sailors, particularly for cruisers and club racers. They provide easy and safe sail handling, allowing for deployment, reefing, and stowage directly from the cockpit, which reduces the need for deck work and physical effort. This system improves safety, especially in changing weather conditions or for short-handed crews. Furling also helps protect the sail from UV exposure and other environmental factors when stowed, contributing to its longevity.
