A furling jib is a headsail designed to be rolled up or unfurled around a rotating foil on the forestay. This system allows for easy deployment and retraction of the sail directly from the cockpit, enhancing convenience and safety, especially for single-handed sailing or when conditions change.

Question 2

What are the dimensions of this furling jib?

Accepted Answer

Sail Area: 5.5 m²
Luff: 5.3 meters
Foot: 2.25 meters
Leech: 4.95 meters

Question 3

What does "Blue UV on port" signify?

Accepted Answer

“Blue UV on port” refers to a sacrificial UV protection strip sewn onto the sail’s leech and foot. This blue-colored strip is designed to protect the sailcloth from harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation when the sail is furled, extending the sail’s lifespan. It’s positioned on the port side, which is the exposed side when the sail is rolled.

Question 4

What is the condition of this sail?

Accepted Answer

This is a used furling jib described as being of very good quality. As a marketplace for used sails, Resail focuses on giving proven sails a second life, supporting sustainable sailing by extending the lifecycle of sails.

Question 5

Who is the producer, Miedema?

Accepted Answer

Miedema Sails is a Dutch sailmaker known for its craftsmanship and quality. Based in Heeg, they have years of experience in the sailmaking industry, producing durable sails for various types of yachts.

Question 6

How should I care for this used furling jib?

Accepted Answer

To maximize the life of your furling jib, especially a used one, ensure it is fully furled when not in use to protect the UV strip. Regularly inspect the sail for any signs of wear, especially on stitching and the UV strip, and consider professional cleaning and servicing periodically. Proper care helps preserve the sail’s performance and extends its useful life.

Question 7

What does "sleeve for forestay/furler" mean?

Accepted Answer

This indicates that the sail is designed with a luff tape (a rope-like edge) that slides into a groove within the furler’s foil (the rotating extrusion around the forestay). This allows the sail to be smoothly rolled up or unfurled around the forestay.
