Luff: 13.1 meters
Foot: 5.73 meters
Leech: 13.9 meters

Question 2

What material is this mainsail made from and what are its characteristics?

Accepted Answer

This mainsail is constructed from NEW X-Cut Dacron. Dacron, a type of polyester, is widely valued for its durability, resistance to UV degradation, and abrasion resistance. The X-Cut (cross-cut) panel construction means the panels are aligned parallel to each other and perpendicular to the leech, a design that prioritizes longevity and consistent performance for cruising and recreational sailing.

Question 3

What type of boat is this mainsail designed for?

Accepted Answer

This mainsail was originally designed for a Nautitech 40. The Nautitech 40 is a catamaran known for blending sailing performance with onboard comfort, making it suitable for cruising enthusiasts.

Question 4

What does "Fullbatten" mean for performance and handling?

Accepted Answer

A fullbatten mainsail features battens that run the entire length from the leech to the luff. This design helps the sail maintain its intended shape under various loads, reduces flogging (which extends the sail’s lifespan), and improves performance, especially in light winds by preventing sagging and in heavy winds by stabilizing the shape. Fullbattens also make the sail easier to stack on the boom.

Question 5

What is the condition of this mainsail?

Accepted Answer

This mainsail is brand NEW.

Question 6

Who is the manufacturer of this mainsail?

Accepted Answer

This mainsail was produced by Elvstrom Sails. Elvstrom Sails is an internationally recognized sailmaker, founded in 1954 by Paul Elvstrøm, known for designing and producing sails for both racing and cruising purposes from their base in Denmark.

Question 7

How should I care for a Dacron mainsail?

Accepted Answer

To maintain your Dacron mainsail, rinse it thoroughly with fresh water after use, especially if exposed to salt, and ensure it is completely dry before storage to prevent mildew. For cleaning, mild soap and water can be used. For tougher stains, a diluted household bleach solution can be applied to Dacron sails, followed by a thorough rinse. When storing, roll or fold the sail to avoid sharp creases, and keep it in a well-ventilated, clean environment away from direct UV sunlight when not in use.
