Question 1

What are the dimensions of this jib?

Accepted Answer

This jib has a sail area of 6.06m2. Its luff measures 5.15m, the foot is 2.4m, and the leech is 4.85m.

Question 2

What material is this jib made from?

Accepted Answer

This jib is constructed from Dacron, a durable and widely used sailcloth material.

Question 3

What is the condition of this jib?

Accepted Answer

This is a used jib, described as being in good condition. It previously belonged to a Pampus (6m) sailboat.

Question 4

What type of boat is this jib suitable for, given it's "ex Pampus (6m)"?

Accepted Answer

The jib is from a Pampus (6m) sailboat. The Pampus is a Dutch national class open keelboat, approximately 6.67 meters (around 22 feet) in length, known for being a responsive day sailer. This jib is therefore suitable for similar 6-meter class sailboats or those with comparable luff, foot, and leech dimensions.

Question 5

What is the purpose of the stainless wire in the luff?

Accepted Answer

The stainless wire integrated into the luff of this jib serves as a crucial component of the forestay when the sail is hoisted. It helps maintain optimal sail shape, provides tension, and offers low elongation under load, which is important for sailing performance. Its stainless steel construction also provides corrosion resistance in the marine environment.

Question 6

Are any accessories included with this jib?

Accepted Answer

Yes, this jib comes with a long rollbag for storage and transport.

Question 7

How should I care for a Dacron jib?

Accepted Answer

To maintain a Dacron jib, rinse it with fresh water after use, especially if exposed to salt, and ensure it is thoroughly dry before stowing to prevent mildew. Roll the sail rather than folding it to avoid creases that can damage fibers. Store it in a sail bag to protect it from UV sunlight, and avoid storing it in temperatures above 71°C (160°F) to prevent deformation. For cleaning, use a mild detergent solution and a soft brush on a clean, smooth surface, rinsing well afterward. Avoid aggressive scrubbing or harsh chemicals, which can strip protective coatings.
