This jib has the following dimensions:

Sail Area: 5.63 m²
Luff: 5.65 m
Foot: 2.5 m
Leech: 5.3 m

Question 2

What material is this jib made from, and what are its key properties?

Accepted Answer

This jib is made from Dacron. Dacron (polyester) is a widely used sailcloth known for its combination of strength, durability, and shape retention. It offers good abrasion resistance and is suitable for cruising and club racing sails.

Question 3

What are soft hanks, and what are their advantages?

Accepted Answer

Soft hanks are flexible, non-metallic connectors used to attach the jib to the forestay. They are typically made from high-strength synthetic fibers like Dyneema. Advantages include being lightweight, easy to handle, rust-proof, and gentle on your mast, rigging, and deck compared to traditional metal hanks. They also reduce noise and the risk of impact damage.

Question 4

What is the condition of this used jib?

Accepted Answer

This jib is in a Used condition. Resail specializes in providing high-quality, proven used sails to extend their lifecycle, offering a sustainable option for sailors.

Question 5

Is this jib specifically for a Nordic Folkboat, or can it be used on other boats?

Accepted Answer

While this jib was originally for a Nordic Folkboat, its suitability for other boats depends on its dimensions matching your vessel’s requirements. Nordic Folkboats are known for their classic design and seaworthiness. Please compare the luff, foot, leech, and sail area dimensions provided with your boat’s specifications to determine compatibility.

Question 6

How should I care for and maintain this Dacron jib?

Accepted Answer

To maintain your Dacron jib, follow these guidelines:

Rinse: Regularly rinse the sail with fresh water to remove salt and dirt, which can be abrasive.
Dry: Always ensure the sail is thoroughly dry before stowing to prevent mildew.
Store: Store sails away from direct sunlight when not in use, as UV light can degrade the cloth. Roll rather than fold sails to avoid hard creases that can damage fibers.
Avoid Flogging & Chafe: Minimize fluttering or ‘flogging’ of the sail and reduce chafe against rigging or other boat parts, as these can weaken the sailcloth.
Cleaning: For general cleaning, use mild soap and water with a soft brush. For stubborn stains on Dacron, a heavily diluted solution of household bleach can be used, but always rinse thoroughly afterwards. Avoid harsh cleaning agents that can damage the cloth or stitching.
