Accepted Answer

NPC Cross Cut Nordac is an all-purpose woven sailcloth developed by North Sails. It is a quality-leading dacron sailcloth designed for everyday use and simple, easy sailing. Sails constructed with this material offer good shape holding across a wide range of conditions, with superior resistance to flogging, chafe, and UV damage. It balances high quality with longevity, making it a reliable choice for cruising sails.

Question 4

What are the advantages of a furling genoa for sailing?

Accepted Answer

A furling genoa is designed to roll around the forestay, allowing sailors to easily adjust the sail area from the cockpit. This system enables you to reduce sail in stronger winds or unfurl it fully for lighter conditions without needing to change sails. It significantly enhances convenience and safety by keeping crew off the bow, making sail handling easier for one or two people. Furling genoas are a versatile and powerful headsail, suitable for both cruising and racing.

Question 5

Is this genoa suitable for cruising or racing?

Accepted Answer

North Sails designs its furling genoas to be the primary workhorse on most cruising boats, offering strength and toughness for various conditions. The NPC Cross Cut Nordac material is an all-purpose sailcloth for everyday use, providing good shape holding. Given its construction and the nature of furling genoas, it is well-suited for both club racing and comfortable cruising, offering adaptability for varying wind strengths.

Question 6

How should I care for and maintain this North Sails genoa?

Accepted Answer

To extend the life and performance of your genoa:

UV Protection: Always ensure the UV-resistant material covers the leech and foot when the sail is furled to protect it from sun exposure, which can degrade the cloth and stitching.
Cleaning: Rinse your sail with fresh water periodically to remove salt and dry it thoroughly before extended storage to prevent mildew. Spot clean stains promptly with appropriate mild solutions.
Handling: Avoid unnecessary contact between the sail and standing rigging to prevent chafe. When not sailing, ease the halyard to prevent permanent luff stretching. Avoid flogging (flapping) as it degrades the sailcloth.
Inspection: Regularly check seam stitching and luff tape for wear. Consider having your sail inspected by a North Sails Certified Service expert at least once a season to address small issues before they become larger problems.
