Question 1

What are the key dimensions of this Jib sail?

Accepted Answer

This Jib sail has a sail area of 43 m². Its specific dimensions are:

Luff: 17.76 meters
Foot: 4.9 meters
Leech: 16.76 meters

Question 2

What is the condition of this Jib sail?

Accepted Answer

This Jib sail is in new condition.

Question 3

Does this Jib sail include UV protection?

Accepted Answer

Yes, this Jib sail is equipped with a grey-silver UV cover on the right side. This UV cover helps to protect the sailcloth from harmful ultraviolet rays, which are a significant factor in sail degradation over time, thereby extending the sail’s lifespan.

Question 4

What type of construction and material is used for this Jib sail?

Accepted Answer

This Jib sail features a Palma Triradial body sail. The Triradial cut means the sail panels are aligned along the primary load paths radiating from the corners, which allows for a more efficient distribution of forces across the sail. This design contributes to improved shape stability, reduced long-term stretch, and consistent aerodynamic efficiency.
The ‘Palma’ refers to the Palma Series by Challenge Sailcloth, known for high-performance, sustainable laminate sailcloth. These fabrics often incorporate Ultra PE (UHMWPE) fibers, offering low stretch, high durability, and robust UV resistance. They are also noted for using recycled polyester fibers and film, along with non-toxic adhesive processes, reducing environmental impact without compromising performance.

Question 5

What does "HF Ø 5" refer to in the product description?

Accepted Answer

“HF Ø 5” most likely refers to the luff tape diameter for a headsail furling system. The “HF” often indicates a headsail furler, and “Ø 5” typically denotes a diameter of 5mm, specifying the size of the luff tape that slides into the furler’s foil. This detail is essential for ensuring compatibility with your boat’s existing furling equipment.

Question 6

How should I maintain this Jib sail to ensure its longevity?

Accepted Answer

To maintain your Jib sail and prolong its life:

Minimize Flogging: Avoid prolonged flapping and leech flutter by trimming the sail promptly and steering a course that keeps it filled.
Protect from UV: While the sail has a UV cover, limit unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight when not in use. Furled sails should be covered, or the sail should be removed and stored in a bag.
Clean Regularly: Rinse the sail with fresh water and allow it to dry thoroughly before folding and storing to prevent mildew and color bleeding.
Vary Fold Lines: When storing, avoid folding the sail along the exact same lines repeatedly to prevent permanent creasing.
Check for Chafe: Regularly inspect areas prone to chafing, such as spreader patches and corners, and address any issues promptly.
Ease Tension: When leaving the boat, ease the halyard and outhaul slightly to prevent permanent stretching of the luff and foot.

Question 7

What type of sailing is this Jib sail suitable for?

Accepted Answer

Given its new condition and Triradial construction using Palma sailcloth, this Jib sail is well-suited for both cruising and club racing. The Triradial cut provides excellent shape retention and durability, which is beneficial for maintaining performance over extended periods and in varied conditions. Its robust construction and high-performance materials make it a reliable choice for sailors who value both efficiency and longevity on the water.
